The BIG day is FINALLY here! Hooray! You’re SO ready to meet your little one, but wait…am i forgetting anything?! Here are your hospital bag essentials!
OKAY you’ve got everything ready. The bassinet is beside the bed, the crib is built, the carseats installed, you’ve got the most ADORABLE name picked out. You cannot wait to see who your little one looks like! Those little hands and feet, but wait…am I forgetting something?
Do I have their going home outfit? Blanket? How many outfits should I bring? I don’t even know what size they will be! Does the hospital have diapers? Do I need diapers?! Every mom has been in your shoes and while every mom is different, what most find helpful at the hospital is not. Here are my suggestions on what to bring and what to skip!
I am going to break down into TWO categories: things for BABY and things for YOU (yes, you will need and want things. You are in fact about to go through the biggest workout of your life mama!).
BABY:
1- Going home outfit! (in 2 sizes, NB & 0-3 months… you don’t know how big he/she will be!)
2- Swaddle blankets / sacks (the hospital will have a blanket four your little one BUT yours will be much softer / easier to use depending on what style you buy! My favorite swaddle will be linked below!)
3- Pacifier (the hospital has had this both times for me, but just incase!)
4- Feeties! (again I would pack two sizes, NB & 0-3 mo just incase… my two boys STILL live in little sleepies, highly recommend and will link below!)
5- Hat! (again, the hospital will have this but I always bring incase)
6-Baby Blankey! (I love to bring the comfort of their home before they even get there)
7- Car seat! (with base installed in car)
*OPTIONAL* but I loved!
–Name sign! I LOVE good hospital photoshoot & announcement photo!
–Portable sound machine! Okay if you’re a first time mom you probably don’t have such a close relationship with white noise YET but let me tell you… this s a COMPLETE game changer. I will link my life saving portable sound machine below!
MAMA:
1-ROBE & OR COMFY / CUTE JAMMIES: (For pictures, visitors, daily wear… you will want a little something to make you feel your best WHILE staying super comfy. Will link my favorites below!)
2- Your own pillow! (and dads if you feel like being nice) Those hospital pillows should be illegal.
3-Your own blanket! (the comfort of home, and maybe an hour or two of sleep)
4- Slippers! (you are NOT gonna wanna bare foot those floors, believe me)
5- Toiletries! (after the biggest workout of your life, you’re going to eventually wanna freshen up)
6- Phone/camera chargers! (don’t forget to grab these on your way out the door, it’ll happen!)
7- Going home outfit FOR YOU (of course you have baby’s but don’t forget yours! I recommend loose fitting clothing as you’re going to want to be comfy)
8- Water bottle! The hospital *should* provide you with a large bottle for water but in the off chance they forget/ run out… come prepared!
9-Hair clips/ Hair elastic/ Head band (some way to get that hair back!)
10- CHAPSTICK
*OPTIONAL*
–Fan! (helped with my first, didn’t get to use with my second. Was so glad to have it!)
–Frida Peri bottle (the hospital will have these supplies fo you but if you have preferences now, bring them!)
–Haakaa (you may have NO idea what this is, I didn’t before my sons. If you are breastfeeding/ planning to breastfeed this is going to be your best friend, right hand man, a necessity. BUT not necessarily helpful at the hospital, but definitely afterwards! Will link below!)
–Tucks pads (you WILL want this for down below but hospitals should supply this! Definitely have for postpartum)
EXTRA: Things for dada (if you feel like being nice)
1- His pillow & blankey
2- SNACKS (no one like a hangry partner)
3- Comfy clothes
